Then Manoah intreated the Lord, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born. Judges 13:8

Manoah was a man of God. He was concerned about doing what it took to raise a Sampson for the Lord. His wife saw an angel and got confirmation from the Lord she was going to have a man child and the child needed to live a separated life.  Manoah was not being disrespectful with the Lord, he just wanted more details, he wanted to do things the right way. The funny part was, when the angel of the Lord shows up again, Manoah got the same exact message his wife got (no wine, no hair cuts, etc.).

Often we want more information about what we are supposed to do or how we are supposed to live for the Lord. The Word of God is often quite clear on what we need to do.  The problem is usually two fold.  One, we are too lazy to dig in and find it.  Two, when we do find it, we think it is not enough.  We think it comes up short when it is dealing with our problem. Also, there are times when we think, “Lord, could you just speak audibly to me like you did to Manoah.”  It just doesn’t work that way. Living a life of faith requires some stumbling around to find the will of God.

Living by faith is doing what we KNOW we are supposed to do and letting God take care of the details. The whole point about Manoah’s story is the details were important to God and he made them clear to both Manoah and his wife.  Besides, Manoah had the law and knew what he was supposed to teach Sampson. We don’t always need as many details from God as we think we do.  God will often fill in as we go.  We just need to take that initial step of faith on what God has clearly shown us.  We just need to do what we know we are supposed to do based on the Word of God.

So do what you know you are supposed to do and let God take care of the details like he did for Manoah.
