God made the scapegoat for a reason, as mentioned in this passage (you probably did not know that is where that term came from). He wanted the goat to go far from the people to bear the people’s sin.
Leviticus 16:22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.
Scapegoat Hunting
God made the scapegoat for a reason, as mentioned in this passage (you probably did not know that is where that term came from). He wanted the goat to go far from the people to bear the people’s sin. Christ took our sin and put it in the depths of the sea, never to be seen again. When we start to bring up people’s past, we are scapegoat hunting. Scapegoat hunting in God’s Kingdom is illegal. He does not want us divining around in others past or our past. He paid for those sins and He wants them to stay under the blood. The devil is the only one in the scapegoat hunting business.
Unto a Land Not Inhabited
The Lord carried our sins unto a land not inhabited when he died on the cross of Calvary. He became our scapegoat. The scapegoat was left to wander in the wilderness until he died. The Lord likely put something in that goat to go far away from the children of Israel. I am glad that the Lord puts our sin in a far away place that is not inhabited. If it was inhabited, someone digging around in the rubbish would surely find it again. Jack Wood, that old-time man of God, had no room for folks that would try and find scapegoats and throw them in people’s faces. He had a good point. No one needs to know about our sin and we don’t want to know about someone else’s. God put us all on a level playing field when we came to Calvary. Let’s not go scapegoat hunting in our lives or anyone else’s life.
