The Desire of the Slothful

The Desire of the Slothful

The desire of the slothful is going to kill him.  He wants things but he does not have the initiative to work.

Proverbs 21:25-26 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.  He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.

The Desire of the Slothful

The desire of the slothful is going to kill him.  He wants things but he does not have the initiative to work.  He refuses to work according to the Word of God.  The Bible still says that if any man does not work, he should not eat.  The hunger for food has been a good motivator for getting people to work for almost 6000 years of human history.  The invention of social programs and the invasion of socialistic societies around the world has enabled multiple generations of slothfulness.  As soon as you  remove the desire for food, people can become very slothful.  This has enabled greed in many Americans and others around the world.  When you have nothing to do but sit around and think of things to covet, you soon become very carnal.  Even the 40 hour work week enables some of this.  When you have too much time on your hands, you start to look for things to covet.

The Righteous Giveth and Spareth Not

The opposite of slothfulness is righteous.  The righteous work and work hard.  They work so they have money they can give to the work of God.  If you are working just so you can consume it upon your own lusts, you have the wrong perspective on the Christian life.  We should not spare or hold back in our giving for the Lord.  I can’t imagine a Christian on the other side saying that they wished they had not given so much money to missions and should have taken more vacations while on this earth!  They are probably saying they wished they had given more.  When a Christian starts to get in the mode of coveting, they are starting to be like the slothful.  Soon they will not want to work.  Giving and working go hand in hand for the Christian.  God enables us to make money so we can give.  If all we make money for is so we can eat, we have the wrong attitude.
