Judges 2:2-3 And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this? Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

No Leagues With the Heathen

We often get into leagues or contracts with the heathen.  It is not good.  We should avoid entaglements with the world as much as possible.  Instead we should actively resist.  When you destroy the world’s altars and actively resist, they are going to get mad.  No body wants to be told they are doing wrong.  It is better to obey God rather than man.  You have a free will.  You make a choice whether you are going to obey God’s voice or not.  The question then comes from God,  “Why have ye done this?”  It is simply rebellion.  We have bad hearts that turn from what we know is right and turn to our flesh and the devil.  Stop making leagues with the world!!!

Thorns in Your Sides

If we don’t resist the world and the people of the world, they will eventually become thorns in your side.  God knows how to get us back right.  If we don’t do right, God will goad us with trials and problems in our life until we do come back to him.  If that does not work, then the  gods of this world and the things of this world we so greatly desired will become a snare or trap to us.  That thing we just had to have will become something we soon despise.  A child of God is never going to be happy with the things of the world.  Instead he or she will just be miserable.  Stop your leagues with the world.  God’s judgment is not far behind if you don’t.
