Luke 24:38. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
Troubles and thoughts go together. When thoughts that are not good arise in our heart, they can cause troubles. The devil can get in the mind and put evil thoughts there. It is so important that we wash our mind in the Word of God daily, so that we can have victory over thoughts that come in our mind. Satan is going to use any advantage he can in our lives. Our minds are one spot he can gain ground quickly. Most of the works of the flesh start in the mind. The Lord asked a couple of questions and they both started with “why”.
The first question was, why are you troubled? The implication is that you should not be troubled, or in a frenzy, as a Christian. We should have the peace of God ruling in our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. When we let the things of this world trouble us, we are not letting God have the preeminence in our lives. We are ruling on the throne of our heart. When we are troubled, we also show a lack of faith that God can take care of things.
The second question was, why do thoughts arise in our heart? The first reason is the heart is deceitful and desperately wicked. We cannot even know our own heart, according to the Bible. If you have something in your heart that is corrupt and out of control, it is going to produce some bad thoughts. As Dr. Don Green used to say, “you can’t stop the birds from flying over your head, but you can keep them from building a nest in your hair.” The devil, who is the prince and power of the air, is also going to put wicked thoughts in your mind. Once again the Lord started the question with “why”. This would indicate it is possible we could have victory over bad thoughts. We need to keep our mind clean and not dwell on evil thoughts. Try to overcome the trouble and thoughts in your life today, through God’s power.
