The Church That Cares For Your Soul

Every Good Race Horse Has a Handicap

Every good race horse has a handicap – Jack Wood

Ecclesiastes 9:11. I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

Every good Christian has some kind of handicap in this Christian race.  It seems that the people with the most “issues” are the ones God uses the most.  That is because he can get the glory from it.  As Solomon says the race is not to the swift.  It is not the fastest horses that win the race.  It is who God uses.  And God makes the decision who He is going to use.  It also requires a willingness on our part.

I think at times we get very judgmental of the brethren.  If they don’t do everything just the way we think they should, we condemn them.  However, almost every Christian has something that he or she adds to the body that likely no one else can.  If nothing else, some have the ministry of helping others grow in grace.  Everyone one of us has issues and everyone of us is needed in the body to make it work.

The best race horses likely all have some kind of ailment or issue at some point in their life.  The same is true of good Christians.  We are all saved by the blood and on our way to heaven.  We are all going to have to live together in eternity.  Look for the good in your brothers and sisters.  There is likely something spiritual that they are better at than you.  Rejoice in that.  Jealously has no place in the family of God.
