Psalms 46:1. To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
God’s Help – You Need It
You need God’s help more than you think. God is our refuge and strength. He is a place we can hide from the troubles of life. There is comfort to be had in going to the Lord and focusing our thoughts on Him. When we go to Him and show our dependence on Him; He becomes present, He becomes close by. A present help is one that is not absent. You don’t want to be one of those people who is nowhere to be found when there is work or trouble. God is not like that. He is by your side, day and night. He is right there, ready to help.
Lack of Faith in Times of Trouble
At times, we act like God has little interest in what we do. When we lack faith, just because we cannot see Him, we fail to go to Him and get His help when it is needed most. The main reason is you don’t believe that He can really help. You think because He did not act the way you wanted in the past, you are not going to bother going to Him again. The problem is He is going to help you the way He wants to help, not the way you want. This is not your plan, it is God’s plan. We sometimes only want help if it meets our selfish demands.
Not the Kind of Help We Wanted
Sometimes God puts you in a situation and deliverance would be contrary to God’s will. He is trying to grow you. God is helping you, just not the way you may want Him to help you. We can often misinterpret affliction and say, why is God not helping me or delivering me from this. In reality, God is helping you. He is growing you and giving you the help of patience and other fruit of the spirit. It is just not the kind of help you wanted. Make sure you get the help God wants you to have. Let Him have His will and way in your life so He can be a very present help. You will learn to trust Him and He can strengthen you, if you let Him do things His way.
