A ten-lesson verse-by-verse study covering 1 Corinthians 12 through 16 and all of 2 Corinthians — the second half of AD2056. The course opens on spiritual gifts and spends three lessons settling the question of tongues: which gifts of 1 Corinthians 12 are for today and which were sign gifts given to confirm the word of God before it was written, why unknown means known to some and unknown to others, what the rules of 1 Corinthians 14 actually permit, and why the “prayer language” misreads 14:14. Chapter 13 is taken up as a more excellent way, with charity defined as love in action rather than as a synonym for love. Chapter 15 is the great resurrection chapter, and chapter 16 takes up giving.
Then 2 Corinthians, of which the governing distinction is this: 1 Corinthians deals with conditions in the church; 2 Corinthians deals with conditions and problems in the ministry. The lessons work through the God of all comfort and the three tenses of sanctification, the restoration of the disciplined offender, the ministration of the Spirit against the ministration of condemnation, the veil upon the heart and what repentance actually is, the judgment seat of Christ and the believer as an ambassador for Christ, separation both from and unto, godly sorrow against the sorrow of the world, the seven principles of giving, the warfare that is fought in the mind, Paul’s defence of his apostleship, the thorn in the flesh and its four purposes, and the ten questions of self-examination.

Coursework: Listen to each lecture and take detailed notes. The final exam is open-Bible and open-notes and is entirely short answer — twenty-five questions worth 54 points, several asking for lists or verse references. One essay is required, on how a Christian is an ambassador for Christ, worth 10 points.
