Complaining is not good for a Christian to do. It shows a lack of thankfulness for the mercies God does give us. The past is not that great as your remember.
Lamentations 3:39-42 Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins? Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord. Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens. We have transgressed and have rebelled: thou hast not pardoned.
Complaining About Circumstances
Complaining is not a good thing for a Christian. The children of Israel complained about their treatment in the desert. They wanted more than what God’s provision supplied. As we complain about the circumstances and situations that life sends our way, we need to remember all the times we did not receive the punishment for our sins that we really deserve. Complaining is really just the flesh saying it is not happy with what God has provided.
The Past is Not As Great As You Remember
Often we make the past seem better than it really was. The children of Israel just remembered the leeks and the onions. They had forgot about the big things God had delivered them from like being slaves, working sun up to sun down with no materials, getting whipped regularly, etc. We forget way to quick where God really brought us from. The past was not all that great before you got saved. Don’t ever think that Egypt is better than Canaan. The devil has you fooled if you do. You should not glorify the past either, especially to your children. You don’t want them to start longing for Egypt.
Getting More Mercy Than We Give
Sometimes we just need to get honest with God. We have gotten way more mercy from God than we have ever had to give out to others who may have wronged us. We really got nothing to complain about today if we realize we could be burning in hell if it was not for the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. We have transgressed, we have rebelled against the Lord more than once. We have done it so much that we get good at it. We sear our conscience. Then we expect God to be there ready to pardon us. I would say that is pretty presumptuous of us.
Lack of Thankfulness The Root
Complaining starts from a lack of thankfulness for what you have right now. A lack of thankfulness is the root of the problem. It amazes me that people in third world countries are often thankful for many things we take for granted. Why not thank God you got what you got. The first thing you should thank God for is salvation full and free. There are not all that many people who are truly saved around you. Why did you get saved? It was not because you were God’s gift to man. It was because God sent the gift of his son to an undeserving man. Thank God for what you have in Christ Jesus and everything else the Lord has provided you. Quit your complaining.
