Matthew 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

The Sparrow

The sparrow is one of the most common of birds.  They were only worth half a farthing, which was not much, in the Old Testament economy.  Yet God, in His infinite caring, still is concerned when one of these little creatures falls to the ground and is hurt or dies.  This shows not just the omniscience of God and His all caring, it also shows his concern for the minute detail of this world.  The most important lesson is for us to contrast the sparrow and man.  God cares more for man than the sparrow.

Man is of Greater Value Than a Bird

That is contrary to the modern worldly philosophy that cares more for the creature than for the creator.  Man is the only creature with an eternal soul.  God cares more about us, and what goes on in our life, than anything in this world.  He watches over those that are His.  Only those who are truly born again belong to His family.  God sent His son to the world to pay the ultimate sacrifice for our sin.  That shows the true value of a single human soul.  God loves to have our fellowship; however, it is only acceptable when looking through the blood of Jesus Christ.  The sparrow is the most common of bird, yet God cares for him with his infinite love.  He loves you and me, his children, even more.
