God alone can work these miracles of grace. He interferes, as it were, between me and myself; He makes separation in my heart; He puts self at a distance; He wills that I should go forth from the limits of self, and give myself unto him without reserve, as to whom, from whom, and for whom I hold all that I am and have. – Francois Fenelon
Romans 6:6. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
God Separates the Old Man and the New Man
God gets in between the old man and the new man. He separates between the two. If He did not do this, we would soon be back to being controlled by the flesh like we were when we were lost. The new birth is a miracle of grace. The separation of the old man and the new man is also a miracle of grace. When we are crucified with Christ, we give up our selfish ambitions and desires and let His will rule in our lives. We should be willing to give Christ all we have and never hold back from him.
God is Not Going to Allow You to Live a Selfish Life
The old man needs to be crucified each and every day to destroy self and sin. When we serve sin, we serve self. We tell God that our fleshly desires are more important than His will, as defined in the Word of God. The Lord is not going to allow you to live a selfish life after He has bought you with His own blood. He is far too jealous for that. When you live selfish, you are taking back to yourself what God rightfully purchased. He will interfere in your life until you relinquish control of what is now rightfully the Lord’s. God wants to make self almost nonexistent in your life. He wants to be magnified, front and center.
