A twelve-lesson verse-by-verse study of Romans chapters 8 through 16, the second half of the great epistle on justification by faith. The course opens on “no condemnation” and the law of the spirit of life, works through the conflict of the two natures, the groaning of the creation and the redemption of the body, the intercession of the Spirit, and the unbreakable chain of Romans 8:28-39.
It then takes up the three chapters on Israel — election and the promises to the nation in Romans 9, Israel’s present unbelief and the universal offer in Romans 10, and the temporary setting aside of Israel, the olive tree, and the mystery of Israel’s blindness in Romans 11 — before turning to the practical chapters: the living sacrifice and the will of God, the gifts and the believer’s relationships in Romans 12, government, capital punishment, and putting on the Lord Jesus Christ in Romans 13, personal convictions against Bible convictions and the judgment seat of Christ in Romans 14, bearing the infirmities of the weak and the ministry of the apostle to the Gentiles in Romans 15, and how a Christian is established according to Paul’s gospel in Romans 16.
Recurring themes include predestination and foreknowledge answered from the text, the difference between corporate and individual election, temporal versus eternal condemnation, and the rule for applying a passage spiritually without moving its doctrine.

Coursework: Listen to each lecture and take detailed notes. The final exam is open-Bible and open-notes and covers Romans 8-16. One essay is required, on Lot and Romans 13:14, worth 10 points. Romans 1 through 7 is covered in AD2014 Romans 1.
