Luke 10:41-42. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
One Thing That is Needful
As Christians, it can be easy to let the world and the devil overwhelm us. We can start to be careful or worried about things that do not matter much in eternity. We, also, become troubled in spirit or troubled with things that will soon be forgotten once we step over to the other side. There are many things that can increase our cares in life. The devil wants to wear out the saints of God. There is one thing that is needful for the Christian, however, and that is spending time with Jesus and being in the Word of God. It can never be overstressed how important it is for the Christian to have meaningful devotions each and every day. It can be easy to become a Martha, and we do our “Christian service”, yet we forget to spend time with Jesus, at his feet.
The Lord is Jealous
The Lord is jealous. He wants our devotion and then he wants our service. When you read your Bible, it is so important that you let the Lord speak to you. You need to try to get something as you read. Like Mary, you need to be close by the Lord if He is going to talk to you. Being at His feet is the best position, as this shows humility. We cannot be proud and expect God to speak to us as we read the Bible. We need to pray and ask the Lord to reveal Himself to us, as we read. Mary was willing to put all the cares of this world aside and then give her full attention to the Lord.
A Drifting Mind
We often let our minds drift during the preaching of the Word of God or as we read the Bible. We can be troubled in spirit at these critical times when the Lord is trying to tell us something. It takes a resolved will and devotion to focus, at times, and put the world out of our heart and mind. The devil wants us to get so busy that we do not have time for God, and if we do take time for the Lord, we are so distracted we get nothing from the Him. Mary chose the good part. That choice was not an accidental choice. She had to purpose to get close to God. We need to make the same choice to get close to God. Let God deal with you about the one thing that is needed in your life — to get close to God. Get rid of the cares of this world, and then focus on Him, as you read your Bible and as you pray.

Have seen way to much of that, to busy to even realize what is truly needed
