James 4:14.  Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

What is your life?  There are at least three possibilities for our path in life.  One, we could lead a godless life without reference to God, never get saved and die and go to hell.  Two, we could lead a godless life, get saved and live for God the rest of our days.  Three, we could get saved, live godly for a time, and then turn back to the world.  The point is, there are no guarantees in life.  The Old Testament has all kinds of examples of kings who fit into these three categories. The same is true of Christians today.  Just because you were raised in a Christian home does not make you a Christian, nor does it mean you are going to keep living like a Christian.  Life is short and we need to make the most of it.  Living for God in this world will affect our rewards in the next.

Our life is a vapour and it is only here for a little while.  We were placed on this earth with a purpose.  That purpose is to please God, not ourselves.  When we start trying to please self, we are on our way heading back to the world.  The Jews wanted to be delivered from the bondage of Egypt.  The problem was, they did not want to get delivered from the ways of Egypt.  We are glad that the Lord has delivered us from the bondage of sin.  However, the way we act sometimes, we don’t want to also get delivered from the ways of the world.  When that happens, we are on our way back to Egypt and the world.  Sooner or later our heart will take us back there.

It is so important that we guard our heart in such a way that we do not want to go back to the ways of Egypt.  There are many who head back to Egypt after they have been on the narrow road to heaven.  We need to make sure we don’t let the world get into our heart.  Guarding what goes into our eyes and ears would help.  We don’t want to get to the end of our life and have regrets for the Lord.  Don’t head back to Eygpt.  It is pretty easy to be caught up in the world and turn back.  Also, for those raising  young people in a Christian home, please make sure that you do not give your children a desire to ever want to visit Egypt. If you talk about Eygpt and make it sound anything less than terrible, you can put that desire in your children’s heart.  What is your life today?  Are you living for God with no desire to go back to Egypt?  That is the way it should be.
