The Church That Cares For Your Soul

A Rough Draft – Being Conformed to Christ for Heaven

Romans 8:29 – For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Romans 12:2 – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Convictions are the first rude draught of the divine image on our spirits. CHARNOCK 1628-1680

The first or rough draft of any paper usually has a lot of problems (the Daily Blog usually is that way too).  As we are in this world, we are hopefully living in light of eternity each and every day.  We should be preparing our soul and spirit for heaven.  You don’t want to have a shock to your system when you step into heaven.  It is pretty interesting listening to some people’s view of the next life.  Most of the time it rarely includes God.  It usually involves their favorite hobby or some other worldly pursuit.  Praising God like the angels and cherubim is not at the top of most people’s thoughts unfortunately.

As Charnock says, convictions, or firmly held beliefs or opinions, should impress God’s image on our spirit.  As you grow as a Christian, your convictions should grow stronger and they should become more numerous.  As God teaches you new things it should change how you live and think.  You should become more conformed to the image of Christ each and everyday.  You should also become less and less conformed to the world.  It is true we will never be beyond the “rough” draft stage in this life.  We see heaven through a dark glass right now.  But we should always strive or work at being the best we can be.  That is really all God wants out of us in this life.  Until we get that glorified body we will always be rough in a sin cursed world.  You could have a million years to live in this sin cursed world and still be “rough” as they come.  Thank God he limited our pilgrimage to 70-80 years.

So try and write a little more of the rough draft of your life today and correct some of your convictions you have let slip.  Are you getting more convinced in your beliefs as the Lord reveals more and more from his Word?  I hope so.
