Daniel 1:8. But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
Daniel Took a Stand Against Wrong
Sometimes we need to take a stand as Christians. We need to figure out what is right and what is wrong and follow the Lord. It was probably not an easy choice for Daniel to stand up to the prince of the eunuchs and say he did not want to eat their food. He stuck out as being different than the other Jews. A lot of the Jews, out of fear, likely went along with the situation. Daniel decided to try God to see if He would deliver him. Often, we will not find out all that God is able to do in our life, until we get out on the limb far enough for Him to do something.
Living Clean is Always Right
It is always right to live clean. Daniel did not want to defile himself, at any cost; even if that cost included his death. We need to put holy living for our God above even death. It is always right to do right. Don’t quit on God just because the world calls evil good and good evil. Peer pressure is very powerful. Don’t let it overcome the guidance of the Holy Ghost in your heart. Giving in to the flesh is not the right thing to do. As Daniel, we need to live above the laws of this world when they go against the laws of God.
