The Church That Cares For Your Soul

Letting God Control Your Life

Proverbs 16:33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord.

Casting the Lots of Life

We may cast a lot into our lap, but it is the Lord who sets things in motion and makes them happen when we turn our life over to him and live by faith.  I would like to talk today about God disposing, or controlling, our lives.

Dispose:  To set; to place or distribute; to arrange. To regulate; to adjust; to set in right order.  To apply to a particular purpose.  To set the mind in a particular frame; to incline. – Webster’s 1828 Dictionary

Trusting God to Dispose

There is no doubt that you need to get the car of life moving; but once it is moving, you must trust the Lord to dispose, guide, direct, and regulate it.  God can affect the mind by putting it in a particular frame, or incline us to prefer one thing over another, if we are truly seeking His will.  God will change the desires of our heart so that they line up with His will.  Living a life of faith requires that we trust God to make decisions, arrange circumstances in our life, and allow us to cross paths with people God intends for us to meet.  We must let God guide the conversations we have with others.  He promised to give us the words to speak, but not necessarily before the time they are needed.

Are You a Control Freak?

Living a life of faith and letting God dispose your life, doing with it as He sees fit, can be unnerving if you are a type-A personality (i.e a control freak).  Control freaks are not good at letting go and letting God make decisions.  They have to try to fix everything and have an answer for everything.  A life of faith requires letting God take control; you sit back for the ride, let God make the decisions, and then not get upset when you think things do not come out the way you planned.  When things don’t go the way you want, you are really saying God made the wrong choices.  God chose to give you something different than what you thought He should.  That is thinking like a control freak.

All Things Work for Good

Romans 8:28, letting all things work together for good, is really a testament to trusting God.  When we love God and try to live according to God’s calling on our life, we are living a life of faith and trust in God.  When we do that, we can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the things happening in our life are for good.  God is disposing and controlling every bit of it.  We don’t need to doubt the decisions we made in the past while we are trusting God.  We may be casting a lot, but God is controlling the results.  It is so important that we stay in the Word of God, get our direction and calling from God, and then let God act according to His purpose.  Let God dispose your life today.  It is the only way a Christian should live.

  1. Thank you for this excellent post, Dan. So many times I have run ahead of God because I wanted what I wanted and did not care what He wanted. I made many regrettable mistakes even after being saved because I wanted to be on the throne. I could have saved myself a lot of heartache and regret by just letting God be God and run my life. Now I am going to sit back and let Him run it the way He sees fit. Thanks again.
