Indeed there is no duty in the Christian’s whole course of walking with God, or acting for God but is lined with many difficulties, which shoot like enemies through the hedges at him, while he is marching towards heaven: so that he is put to dispute every inch of ground as he goes. – William Gurnall – The Christian in Complete Armour
Joshua 1:7. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
It Takes Courage
It takes courage to live for God. The Christian life is not an easy life. You can easily get tripped up in this Christian life. The devil and the world are always going to try to get you off the straight gate path. Christian, in the book Pilgrim’s Progress, often was tempted to get off that path. There were many times the devil had all kinds of snares that would often detour Christian and then he would have to make up time.
Doing the Will of God
If you are going to observe and do what the Bible says, it is going to take strength and courage. Doing the will of God is not going to be easy. The devil will shoot his fiery darts at you regularly. Every mile you go, along that path, will not be won without a fight and struggle. You cannot be turned to the left or the right in that path. A prosperous journey is one that produces interest on the investment God has made in us. If we are going to prosper in all that we do, we have to do things God’s way, under God’s authorities he has placed in our lives. It takes courage to live for God. Don’t give up halfway down the path to the Celestial City.
