Song of Songs 5:1. I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: …
Matthew 22:30. For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
Your Spouse is Your Brother or Sister First
Your spouse is your sister in Christ or brother in Christ before they are your spouse. That relationship is an eternal relationship. Them being your spouse is only an earthy relationship. It is important, in a marriage, that we focus on the eternal. Maintaining the spiritual condition of each other is very important. If we follow Ephesians 5 as our model, that will always be the case. As I have stated in the past, the Christian marriage is the greatest picture of the relationship of Christ to the church that exists on this earth.
We are Going to Live For Eternity Together
Another important thing to remember is that any one who is saved is going to live with us in eternity. It would be good if you could learn to get along with your kin on earth so that when you get to heaven you don’t have to learn how to get along with them. There are going to be people in heaven that didn’t believe exactly like you. There are going to be people that didn’t even think like you. Ultimately, everything is going to get straightened out there; however, it is still good that you put aside your differences and learn to live with your brothers and sisters in Christ. Living with your brothers and sisters, in peace and harmony, is something that would be pleasing to God. The first place to start would be with your spouse.
