We need to make sure we keep things right between others, especially those we are closest to. Our conscience convicts us when we know we should make some thing right or apologize, it is just our pride that keeps us from doing it.
Proverbs 6:3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.
Making Sure of Your Friends
We need to make sure we keep things right between others, especially those we are closest to. Our conscience convicts us when we know we should make some thing right or apologize, it is just our pride that keeps us from doing it. There are some things that are better left unsaid and will only make a situation worse by confessing them, however, when we need make something right in order to preserve a friendship, we need to do it. It is so critical that it be done that it says in the following verse you shouldn’t even sleep on it. You need to take care of it right away.
Coming Into the Hand of Your Friend
We come into the hand of our friend when they “have the upper hand” over us. When they could crush us or destroy us because of what they know about us or what we have done to them, we need to humble ourselves before them and let them know they are right and that we deserve far worse than whatever they think. Your are at the mercy of your friend. You have wronged them and you need to get right. Instead, most people will do the exact opposite. Pride will cause them to try and justify their sin and then blame their friend for it. That is not the way to get right. That is how friendships are destroyed. You need to humble yourself and get right with your friend. It is vitally important you keep a friendship with a good godly friend. They will help you grow. Keeping a friendship is especially true of husbands and wives. How many marriages are destroyed when a spouse wrongs the other spouse and refuses to get right about it. We need to make sure that we keep a good relationship with our friends. Living humbly and getting right with each other is vital to making that happen.
